Jim and I were in the same class all through Manzanita Elimentary school. We attended different Junior Highs and we didn't have classes together at OHS. We also shared the same Sunday school class thru catichism at age 14 at St. Paul's Lutheren Church. In spite of knowing each other all those years, we did not communicate or get to know each other very well.
Jim was always neat, polite and clean cut. He was also quiet. He neither "hung out" with the guys nor "chased" the girls. He seemed bashful.
When I read his obituary I was a bit surprised. It seems he bloomed into quite a community leader, active in much volunteer work. I suppose I didn't know the real Jim during our younger years because we were so much alike, quiet and bashful. I feel I missed out not getting to know him as we both came out of our shells as active, productive adults.
