Steve was a gentleman, a scholar and an athlete -- an excellent team mate. I saw him score for Cal's freshman basketball team, which showed he was a great player, because it was rare for any walk-on to get time on the court. Mainly, he was a fine, thoughtful man. I'm so sorry for the loss to his family.
